Scientific Challenge: The role of tumor-derived extracellular vesicles in reprogramming surrounding healthy cells remains poorly understood, particularly in pancreatic cancer.
Study Type: Metabolomics and Lipidomics
Our Contribution: Nelson Scientific Labs performed multi-omics profiling of extracellular vesicles from pancreatic cancer cell lines, including metabolomic and lipidomic characterization. We evaluated downstream effects on recipient epithelial cells.
Key Findings: Cancer-derived extracellular vesicles induced ER stress and unfolded protein response pathways in normal pancreatic cells, promoting phenotypes associated with early transformation towards a neoplastic phenotype. Lipid cargo played a key mechanistic role.
Research Impact: This study establishes a mechanistic link between tumor-derived vesicles and early microenvironment remodeling, identifying potential targets for early intervention in pancreatic cancer.
