In April 2026, members of the CardioWatch research team presented new findings at the MedStar Health–Georgetown University Research & Education Symposium. The poster, “Prospective Evaluation of Early Cardiotoxicity in Patients Undergoing Photon or Proton Radiation Therapy for Locally-Advanced Distal Esophageal Cancer,” explored early indicators of radiation-associated cardiac effects in patients receiving thoracic radiation therapy.
Led by Gupta N, Waller N, Kearney T, Paredes J, Kanholm T, Lewis BE, Srichai B, Cheema AK, and Unger KR, this work supports ongoing efforts to identify biomarkers of radiation-induced cardiovascular injury. The study represents an important step toward translating omics-based approaches into tools that may enable earlier detection and improved monitoring of patients at risk for radiation-related cardiac complications.
